Liz Ghitta Segall

Having lived in so many diverse places and speaking both French and English fluently, Ms. Segall is truly a citizen of the world. She studied art at Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and has been associated in other studies with the likes of Bernard Pfreim and Richard Pousette-Dart. Like Jackson Pollack, she enjoys total body involvement with her paintings. Often using repetitive patterning and scumbling, her work tends to take on a wonderful sort of rhythmic improvisation. Liz is also known for her cerebral wit. This comes through in her work. Think of her as a stand up comic who paints and you come close to descerning her true artistic genious. Being able to make us laugh through her art but not at her art is not an easy thing to pull off. She does it with the command over her media, line work that says a lot but not too much, and personal symbolism that leaves the viewer guessing. It all adds up to a real treat for the eye as well as the soul.
